The early medieval secular: spectrum and strategies

This special issue seeks to fill a gap by taking the first steps towards locating early Middle Ages in broader history of secular. While it has generally been assumed that division between religion and secular was impossible make medieval period, taken together articles this collection show variety seculars, all arising from general assumption distinctions could, indeed had to, be made what not. The introduction proposes scholars should think terms spectrum secularity; key determining sits within must identification secularizing strategies, i.e. attempts draw distinction religious particular context. Such an approach offers possibility does not privilege one time or place.
